Wednesday 27th March – Windsurf ***** River Orwell at Levington – Sunny periods.

Foil – 22.10 knot max (25.43 mph) (year and spot PB), 20.28 knot ave (PB), 14.05 knot hour, 17.66 knot mile (year PB), 44.22 km., 15.75 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Tushingham Storm 5.2m.

What a day, its been along time coming but I have finally got a 20 knot average, actually breaking 20 knots at least ten times, that’s 5 years as I started foiling in March 2019!!! I am at a bit of a disadvantage as I use big front and rear foil wings and am now definitely looking to get a smaller set and am currently looking for an Starboard Evolution 650 or 725 front and 255 rear wing with possibly a 105 fuselage?
For a change a few sailors were heading over to Levington I headed over arriving at ten in lovely sunshine with a good breeze from the SSW, gusting to 25 knots so quickly set up the foil board and took a chance with my 5.2 which was pretty perfect for going fast although I could have easily sailed with 4.7 as Robert and Michael both rigged 4m! I was first out and had a good spell by myself before being joined by Robert and Michael with three wingers coming much later! I spent the first hour doing diagonal runs in front of the marina going for speed runs down past the mooring bouys, I did come a cropper once pushing too hard and of the 50 gybes I did today I only dropped one! There was a bit of a swell running down the river but with the wind in this direction you were sailing across and not into them, great to be out in the sunshine, not cold at all and it only clouded after I had packed up! After beating down river I had one long run up towards Pin Mill getting my years best mile, getting knackered I decided to call it a day and headed back to discover I had sailed another 27 miles:)
Tomorrow it looking windier with showers so might save myself for another session on Friday!
